1000 FLAGS to support the Return March to Tibet
Promoters:

Foreign Supporters Committee and others associations who want to share the initiative.

1000flagsprotibet with the approval of the Organising Committee of the Tibetan People's Uprising Movement (Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Women’s Association, GuChuSum, National Democratic Party of Tibet, Students for a Free Tibet [India]), aims to:

Goals: Give support to the Return March to Tibet, its participants and attract worldwide attention (through press, public opinion, Tibetan patriots, friends of Tibet, etc.) to the events of these days –so crucial for the history of Tibet– in relation to the right of Tibet to demand self-determination and de-colonization from China, dignity, respect of civil rights, free circulation of international reporters, introduction of the Red Cross and Amnesty International observers, respect for religious freedom, observance of the United Nations resolutions concerning Tibet.

Activities and means:
Gathering as many representatives as possible from different countries, local administrations, universities, cultural associations, syndicates, groups connected with NGOs, Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Women’s Association, GuChuSum, National Democratic Party of Tibet, Students for a Free Tibet, etc., in order to provide concrete and visible support to the March. The meeting point will be Almora town, an adjoining district to the border district of Pithoragarh, famous for its natural beauty and temples.

A Forum on Human Rights in Almora will be promoted with daily events (conferences, debates, witness statements, music and cultural performances, invitation of well known friends of Tibet, etc.) specifically agreed with the Organising Committee of the Tibetan People's Uprising Movement. The Forum will begin on 10 June and will last until the marchers cross the Tibetan border and, if possible, will be extended to the following period until a reasonable negotiation with the Chinese authorities will be assured.

How can we support the Return March?

Everybody can do something important by:

1. Joining personally the Marchers (with Almora as base camp) and possibly being representative of an Association.

2. Supporting economically the March (see “donate” on the left) and asking somebody of the friends who will be physically present to carry the flag of your Association. The Coordinators of 1000flagsprotibet will match Supporters and Participants

The Marchers are very close to the Tibetan board. Please give us a quick feed back if you want to be part of this coordinated initiative.

China cracks down ahead of Games

By Clifford Coonan
Monday, 23 June 2008

To get to the apartment we have travel down a series of laneways in the south of Beijing, all bearing the character "chai", which means "demolish". A series of locks are opened as the steel door is pulled back, but it won't do much good when the police do come.

Tibetan Satyagraha

Tibetan Satyagraha Need for the restoration of freedom in Tibet

By Prof. S. Rinpoche*

The idea that Tibet's freedom must be restored is not politically motivated, nor is it based upon some nation-state theory. Our struggle is not primarily an ethnic or political struggle. Rather, all people born in the spiritual land of Tibet have a universal responsibility to all beings, and the fulfilment of that responsibility is a duty that we all incur simply by the fact of our birth. If we do not live up to that birth-duty, then we are not worthy of being Tibetans and we are unable to act in a way that does justice to our heritage.
